PCRA has acted as a foundation for me all throughout high school. When times got tough at Regis, I turned to my crew team for support, and I always found a way to get through. Not only has it acted as a strong foundation, but it also acted as a family. I wrote an interesting college supplement about "why I love rowing." Here it is.
Write about something you love to do:
I actually don’t love rowing.
It’s hard to believe since every morning for the past four years I have risen at 5:15am, run a 1.36 mile warm-up loop, and rowed with Pelham Community Rowing Association, which has become family. Although I find peace in the serene setting that transports me away from my school in New York City, and motivation in the sound of the boat skimming through the water, and strength in the knowledge that my hands power our motion, I don’t love the sport.
I do, however, love the strong work ethic rowing has instilled in me. By passing through milestones that once seemed unattainable, I’ve learned to trust more in myself. Rowing has forced me out of my comfort zone.
I love the bond I have created with my teammates, who have been with me in the boat through the highest and lowest moments of the grind.
I love the newfound trust in myself that has instilled in me a mindset I know will last my lifetime.
I might not love rowing, but I love everything that comes with it.
